4/25/2007 President Martin Sobel opened the meeting at 7:50pm. 24 members and guests were present. The meeting was held at Martins hangar at SRQ. Before the meeting began, 4 people took demo flights in a Sports Star LSA aircraft. It was reported by a sales representative of the company 55 Sports Stars are currently flying in the U.S. with more in Europe. Empty weight of the plane is about 720lb. with a 400lb. useful load. The salesman, based out of Tampa's Vandenburg airport said the plane, as shown, sells for $123,000. Secretary's Report: The minutes of the March meeting were accepted as printed on the chapter website. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Brad Smith reported $36,972.34 in the chapter account. Builder Reports: Brad Smith is building a RV-6A and modifying it with RV-7A items. He has been working on the plumbing and is 'now moving to something else'. Earl Swan is installing the canopy of his RV-8, and expects completion in 2-3 months. Jim Ellis is pulling off the fiberglass parts of his RV-9A to be painted. Rob Brooke has the engine if his Tiger Moth running on the turbo. Martin expressed the need to elect three new directors to fill the board. Scott Becker is to remain as a director. The group was asked for nominations. The new board will also have as members, Chip Miller, Vance Noles, and Earle Swan. Blaise Pierson reported on the recent Sun 'n Fun Fly-In. He reported four aircraft crashes took place, two fatalities. He was unimpressed by the airshow on Friday. Brad Smith reports 50% of the members have paid their dues for 2007. He also believes some tools in the chapter tool library need to be replaced and is asking for suggestions from the members. Martin reported runway incursions were 'way up' in our area. He also announced that the May meeting would take place at the McClure Auditorium. Blaise was hopeful the negative outer area service for SRQ would be in place by June.
