July Meeting
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, July 26th at 7:30 PM in McElmurry Hall.
The program for this month’s meeting was
not available at press time. See you there.
From the Left Seat
I
have really nothing to report this month. No news from the legal front.
The Florida Wing of Van's AirForce is flying to Pensacola the twelfth
of August to visit the Naval Aviation Museum. If you are interested,
please visit the Real World Solutions web page and go to the VAF link.
I have reserved a block of rooms at the Suburban Lodge for $65. Right
now the plan is to fly into Ferguson’s Flying Field. (82j) I am working
on getting us permission to land at NAS Pensacola so we could taxi
right to the museum. If that happens, the arrival procedures will be
posted on the VAF site. This trip is open to everyone, not just RV's.
Any questions feel free to call me on my cell at 518.8815.
We
now have two non-chapter members who have expressed an interest in our
RV8A kit. The time is running out for a chapter member to acquire it. I
do want to thank Rob for all his work in putting the ad together.

Minutes of the June
Meeting
Vice President Chip Miller opened the meeting at 7:37pm with the 'Pledge to the Flag'. 16 members and guests were present. An introduction of chapter officers
followed.
Treasurer's Report: No report was given.
Secretary's Report: The minutes of the May meeting were accepted as printed in the newsletter.
Young Eagles Report: Tom Sell reported 13 kids received Young Eagle flights at the last event. The flights were split between two pilots using one aircraft.
Builder Reports: Richard Cheek is still working on his Taylorcraft project. Jim Ellis has his RV-9A ready for it's first flight after three years and three months of work. Vance Noles will be ready to hang the engine on his RV-7A in 2-3 months. He plans on using a 0-360 with a 'few goodies'. Lou Basl is building a RV-6.
Old Business: There was no news on our ongoing dispute with Sun 'n Fun. It was reported the picnic of the new Manatee Chapter went well. 5 or 6 RV's flew in for the event. Chip and Blaise did an interview on AM 930 that was played on Saturday morning (6/24).
New Business: John Carter showed off a
new book on W.W.I aircraft.
A short break for refreshments was followed by the evening's program, a DVD on runway incursions and runway safety. The program
qualified for part of the wings safety program
Chip closed the meeting at 8:46pm.
Respectfully submitted, Rolf Bostrom, Secretary.
Young Eagles
Report
Frank Szachta
Although I am in St. Louis for the summer, I am still flying young eagles with EAA-32 here in St. Louis, MO. Also I still am flying with the CAP here in MO. during our summer stay here. That's the reason I am writing.
Fellow
EAA-180 members, I suggest some of you visit the local CAP Squadron in
Sarasota, to recruit their Cadets to help run the Young Eagle flights
we hold at Dolphin Aviation every 3rd Sat. of each month. They
could help the Young Eagles fill out their forms for the flight, and
after the flights could talk to the Young Eagles about opportunities in
aviation in the Civil Air Patrol. Our local CAP Sq. is FL-044 and they meet every 1st and 3rd Wed. in the same building and room that our EAA-180 meets. Their
CAP Cadets meet every Monday night at the Red Cross building on 59th
St. West in Bradenton, near the G.T. Bray Park. If any of our EAA
Chapter members are willing to help teach these CAP Cadets about any
facet of Aviation, they are in need of Aerospace Instructors all the
time.
I hope this paragraph is worthy of consideration for your newsletter. In
addition one of the CAP Senior members, and their Safety Officer is a
retired US Navy Captain ( A full colonel, to you Army & Air Force
types) and he flew the Sub Chaser planes for many years. He
has many flims and programs on Navy flying and many safety topics, and
may consider being a Program for one of your meetings. His name is Dick
Petrucci, and he also is an instructor at the Sarasota Military Academy
( A Charter School) and a super good Safety Instructor in all topics in
aviation.
Good Luck

Chapter Swag
Mike
While bargain shopping at the Office Depot clearance bin last week, I found some packs of iron-on printer sheets. I printed up some small Chapter 180 logos on them and will have them at
the meeting for those who would like to wear the colors. At 10¢ a piece, seemed like a good deal.
I tried one on a white T-shirt and it came out pretty good, except I put it on the wrong side.
Also,
if I get a chance before the meeting, I’ll print up some new Chapter
180 business/info cards for handing out to prospective members. Keep a couple in your wallet for when you run into like minded individuals.
From AvWeb’s “Short Final” Series:
Seeing is believing... Overheard while in the pattern at FNT:
Tower: N12345 traffic at your one o'clock.
N12345: Looking for traffic.
[long pause...]
Tower: N12345 traffic now ... your traffic at three o'clock.
N12345: Still looking. I only see birds over there.
Tower: Well, look close. One of them has a transponder in it.
————————————————————–
No, that's not what I said.
"I
was about to lift off with my instructor from a class D airport in a
Robinson R-44. The route of flight would take us very near neighboring
Class C airspace. The controller questioned us after we gave our
initial heading..."
Controller: Staying clear of all airspaces?
My instructor: ...Except yours.
(short pause)
Controller: Did you just say, 'Up yours'?
We were both laughing too hard to respond.

Proudly
flying my new Lancair Columbia 350 into Tucson International, having
been cleared for the visual to 11L, I heard this interchange with a
regional jet: Tower: RJ1234 you're cleared for the visual following the
Columbia on a one mile final. (pause) RJ1234: ...I'm following the
Space Shuttle?!!
—————————————————————
While
doing some work, heard the following exchange on Kennedy Tower freq:
Twr: Cactus 51, turn right zulu and golf, hold behind the plane that's
stopped to recycle. Cactus 51: Cactus 51 we'll make the right zulu and
golf, behind the recycled airplane ... whatever that means. Trw: C'mon
Cactus, you guys should know what that means, you fly Airbus' -- it's
when the screens go blank and you have to restart them all. Cactus 51:
Oh, yeah, we know about that. We just thought it was 'cause we were out
of quarters
