EAA Chapter 180

Sarasota _ Manatee Counties, Florida

Meets the 4th Wednesday  of every month, 7:30 P.M. McClure Auditorium,

SW entrance, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport

JUNE                         Prez     Sez                      2005

Hi Guys and Gals,

For those of you that missed the meeting last month, the FAA dog and pony show was a hoot!  Your humble servant asked a few pointed questions like: How did the F-16 midair have anything to do with SRQ as it was in Tampa's airspace?  The answer was: Because the Cessna took off from SRQ.  It became quite clear, early on, that any meaningful discussion of giving back local control to SRQ for VFR traffic within the Class C was not part of the program.

There  is a proposal by EAA that has been presented to the FAA, thanks to some prodding by Chapter 180.  It is included in the newsletter.  If you have the time, please write a note to the Administrator and show your support for this VFR corridor.  The only thing I would like to see is a requirement that the incoming and outgoing be north and south of University.  I know it is VFR, and all that.  But, a little more horizontal separation is a good thing.  We had a corridor like this at Orange County Airport (The busiest GA in the World!).

We have included the By-Laws, and suggested additions, in this newsletter.  Please come to the meeting, if you can, as we will need to vote on them this month.  These are the rules that govern the administration of the Chapter.  If there is something in them you don't like, now is the time to debate it.

There has been some grumbling about the cost to the Chapter for renter pilots to fly Young Eagles.  If your are a Young Eagles pilot, please let Frank or Scott know when you will be available to fly so we aren't scrambling around at the last moment to find a renter pilot to substitute.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is putting on the program for us this month.  I'm a little confused as to what the message is.  I think they want to talk about us pilots being vigilant for possible troublemakers post 9/11.  Braxton Ezell set this up.

I hope to see most of you this month, July 27, 7:30PM.  Please wear your nametag for the benefit of the new members.                      Your humble servant
