Minutes of the March Meeting

President dave Bothe opened the meeting at 7:30pm with the 'Pledge to the Flag'.  28 members and guests were present.  An introduction of guests was followed by an introduction of chapter officers.  Members introduced themselves and gave a brief report on any aircraft projects they may be working on.  Hugh Corley said he hasn't made much progress on his self designed ultralight in the past month.  Steve Walters is rebuilding a Queen Air.  One engine looks good, and he is working on the other.  Eugene Naves is making some modifications on his fisher FP101.  Dick Wilke is building a RANS S6S in Michigan.  Jim Ellis is doing the firewall forward on his RV-9A, while Earle Swan is wiring his RV-8.  Jason Smithers has a CH701 project underway.  Blaise Pierson is getting some flying time in his RV-8.

Chip Miller reported on the most recent meeting of the SRQ Airport Authority.  Jets Go is gone - Chapter 11.
Blaise Pierson related his recent safety seminar at SRQ, and reports Sarasota has requested control of the airspace around the airport be returned to local control.  He urges all members to write to AOPA and EAA to help in this effort.
Tool Committee Report: Rob Brooke completed a tool inventory that is now on the chapter website - www.eaa180.org.  All tools are accounted for.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Frank Hurlburt reported a balance of $17,773 in checking.

Dave Bothe has heard from Sun 'n Fun concerning our disagreement with them over the Plane Parts Mart.  They are asking for about $46,000.

Young Eagles:  Scott Becker said 26 kids took rides during the last event.
The date of the next flight is April 16th.  Blaise reminded all Young Eagle pilots they need to be briefed on procedures prior to flying out of SRQ.  Dave announced preference will be given to owner aircraft at future Young Eagle events.

Old Business:  A BBQ is scheduled for Friday night, April 15th at Sun 'n Fun.  The fly-in at Lumberton, NC is coming up in May, and June 18th a special trip to 'Fantasy of Flight' is planned.  Dave was on 'Sarasota Speaks' Friday, March 25th. Chapter T-shirts are available in gray for $15.00.

New Business: Dave will have tapes of Airport Authority meetings available to chapter members.  The tapes are about one hour long.  Frank and Dave are in the process of getting a P.O. Box for the chapter at a cost of about $20.00 per year.  Dave would also like to send a condensed version of the newsletter to all pilots in the area sometime in the future.  A new FBO is coming to the airport, and Dave would like chapter members to remember Dolphin Aviation's support of our Young Eagle events.

A break was taken for refreshments, followed by a 50/50 drawing.

The program for the evening was an interactive CD - 'Getting Around the Airport'.  The CD contained much useful information about airport taxi and runway procedures.

Dave closed the meeting at 9:44pm.

Respectfully submitted, Rolf Bostrom, Secretary

Do you remember the shamefull ones ?

In our last Chapter meeting the NOT so mumble Prez  announced, that the Dimpler is being held hostage in his hanger. And if anyone wanted the Dimpler they would just have to call him for its release
Dave Bothe
The crowd roared, the other Whistle Blower jaw dropped  to the table. After a period of time the boosing  and hissing stopped  and the  meeting continued.

So in light of this news, we award the Pres the NOT so mumble,  not so distinguish, award of the number ONE  Flip– Flopper.
PS.. By the end of the meeting, Eugene left with the scales and there was rumblings that the rust proofing equipment may be finding a home.
