February Meeting The next meeting will be held Wednesday, February 24th at 7:30 PM in McElmurry Hall. Florida Aircraft Painting is scheduled to come talk to us about painting planes.
Minutes of the January Meeting President Steve Walters opened the meeting at 7:39pm with the 'Pledge to the Flag'. 28 members and guests were present. An introduction of those present included those with projects telling the group about their recent progress. John Palmieri just finished a RV-4. Brad Smith is working on a RV-6. Jim Ellis has a RV-9A he's working on. Vance Noles now has about 55 hours on his RV-9A. Frank Hurlburt is building a Lancair 4-P, and will be getting a turbine engine for it in April or May. Hugh Corley is ready to put the wings on the ultralight he designed himself. Bill Peters reports the new Sterba prop he put on his Fly Baby has greatly improved the performance. Dave Bothe is now building a RV-8A and has got rid of the FEW P-51 replica. Mike Weed, rebuilding a RV-6A, has received new canopy and finishing kit for it. Secretary's Report: The minutes of the November meeting were accepted as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Dave Bothe did not have the exact figures with him, but estimates we have about $22,000 in our account. Young Eagles Report: Scott Becker reported the Young Eagles flight in December flew about 30 kids. Sun 'n Fun: There is still no word from Sun 'n Fun or John Burton about the ongoing dispute over funds from the 2002 fly-in. Chapter 180 in now putting the chapter tools in a room at the south end of hangar J-2 on the Jones side of the airport. The chapter will be having a picnic at Airport Manatee on April 10th. A break was taken for refreshments, followed by a 50/50 drawing. Hugh Corley won, and donated the proceeds back to the chapter. A committee was formed to come up with programs ideas for the coming year. Those on the committee are: Steve Walters, Brad Smith, Dave Bothe, and Ramon Pabalon. Frank Szachta reminded the group that Phillips is still giving a $1.00/gallon discount to pilots flying Young Eagles. Chapter 180 is matching that amount. Steve Walters closed the meeting at 9:05pm. Respectfully submitted, Rolf Bostrom, Secretary Chapter Dues If you got the dreaded “red stamp” on the cover of the newsletter, or received an email “nastygram”, then you are officially a “deadbeat”. Send your $15 check made out to “EAA Chapter 180” to: David Bothe 463 Picasso Dr. Nokomis, FL 34275 Or pay at the meeting. Or, convince Dave that you did in fact pay and that our record keeping is to blame.
Links of the Month If you have a high speed internet connection and haven’t seen this video, you must take a look. AvWeb has a short write-up on the incident as well. The incident happened back in 1980, but that doesn’t take away from the “wow” factor. http://www.avweb.com/newspics/DC-9-80hardlanding.mpg http://www.avweb.com/newspics/DC-9-80.pdf
Avionics Installer for Hire I am Derek Boxwell, A&P, FCC GROL, Embry Riddle trained mechanic and avionics tech. I currently work for Cessna Citation Service Center in Orlando Fl as an avionics mod tech (I install avionic mods on Citation business jets). I am available to do complete installs in plane, bench bundle building, etc., but right now I am looking to stick with smaller jobs, experimental planes, new installs and basic mod's. (Since I have a full time job as an installer I think it would be prudent to shy away from some more highly involved jobs). With that said I am in an ideal position to offer the average kit builder an opportunity to work first hand with a professionally trained tech to either fully build, or assist in the assembly of modern avionic stacks. I take pride that workmanship not only complies with CFRs, but that it is of the highest quality. Since I am independent, I can do installs for less considerably less than an avionics shop. I am located in Orlando Fl, but am more than willing to travel in evenings and on weekends to complete a job onsite or off. I have most of the basic tooling needed, and am willing to obtain any specialty tooling needed for a job if called for. The best way to contact me is via email, boxwe3a0@erau.edu If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. |
