EAA Chapter 180 October meeting                                                                                      10/23/91

President Willie Pittman opened the meeting at 7:39PM with the Pledge to the Flag.  25 members and guests were present.

Secretary's Report:  The minutes of the September meeting were accepted as read.

Willie announced the Fly Market at Sun 'n Fun '92 will be in a new, larger building.  He is also trying to get T-shirts and hats to help identify volunteers.
Nov. 4  Ground breaking for the new museum at Lakeland.
Nov. 16 EAA Air Adventure Day.  A day designed to introduce aviation to boys and girls from 12-18 years of age.
Nov. 10 Fly-in & Barbeque at Winter Haven Municipal Airport.
John Keller announced the SRQ picnic Saturday, October 26 on the picnic grounds at the airport.
Willie read an interesting list of statistics from this year's Oshkosh Fly-in.  9.8 miles of snow fencing, 739 portable toilets, 386 business and pay telephones, 491 commercial exhibitors in 1 million square feet of space.
Also, 40,000 EAA members and guests stayed in the campgrounds. 41,000 air operations took place during the convention. According to Lyle Wheeler, the only incidents were 3 ground loops, the Warbirds having 2 of them.
Ray Olcott reported on the recent Venice Fly-in and FSAACA annual meeting.  The Rusty Hurd Trophy was won by Ray and Jo Olcott.  Clint McHenry was the featured speaker, during which he said next year's production of Su-26's was sold out already, and a new 2-place version is expected in the future.  A good showing of antique aircraft turned out for the show, including 3 Stearman's.
Ray would like to see and Air Adventure Day to be held at Venice, perhaps in January or February.  EAA supplies the necessary materials, but he would like our Chapter to help sponsor the program.
Pete D'Agrosa reported he'd gotten his pilot's license last week.
Members and guests were introduced, and a break was taken for refreshments, brought by Jim Waldt.  $9.00 in the 50/50 drawing was won by Dave Underhill's daughter.
Those present voted to sponsor 2 kids to the Air Adventure Day in Lakeland.  Willie again reminded us that elections would be held at the November meeting, and nominations were needed.

Willie closed the meeting at 9:22PM.

Respectfully submitted, Rolf Bostrom, Secretary
