EAA Chapter 180 April meeting                                                                                             4/24/91


Vice-President Bob Reeves opened the meeting at 7:38PM with the Pledge to the Flag. 22 members and guests were present.

Secretary's Report: The minutes of the March meeting were accepted as printed in the newsletter.
Treasurer's Report: Jim Kissick filling in for our Treasurer Mike Barnett, reported a balance of $378.00 with petty cash of about $40.00. He also reported Mike and his wife Melissa have just purchased a Pietenpol kit.
  
Bob announced the Fly Market at this year's Sun 'n Fun was larger than last year's $90,000.00. The totals for this year are around $120,000.00, with improved security.  Already ideas are coming on how to make next year's even better. 
Ray Olcott gave a run down on some of the new from Sun 'n  Fun. 209 Classic and 54 Antique aircraft registered at headquarters. 1900 buttons were sold during the event. In attendance this year were three DC-3's - one on wheels, one with skis, and one on floats. Next year, aircraft built from 1955-1960 will be considered in a Contemporary Class. Chapter #1 is sending two boys to the Oskosh Academy this year. Tom Hull, past Grand Champion at both Lakeland and Oshkosh, was killed in a crash of his Cessna 195 in Maryland on his way to Sun 'n Fun. Ray reported this year a Stinson was chosen as Grand Champion, which brought out anecdotes about Stinsons from half of the chapter. Other totals from Sun 'n Fun:  Close to 300,000 attended, over 1,500 registered aircraft, 1,000 international visitors from 131 countries.  2,200 children visited, 3,400 camped in the campgrounds while 1,100 camped with their aircraft. There were 23,000 air movements in and out of Lakeland.  Altogether it was the biggest Sun 'n Fun yet.
In other news, the May meeting of FSAACA is to be held at Wimauma. Pete D'agrosa got a Cessna 182, and Alex Lewis has a new Beech Sierra. Lenny Kirkpatrick brought photos of the PT-2 he's building.  It appears to be about complete.
The airshow at Venice, October 19,20 of this year will feature Clint McHenry.
In the mail:  Two new tower's are going up in central Florida -  a 500' tower north of Arcadia in Gardner, and a 1449' tower near Ft. Meade. Aerodrome '92, a WWI Fly-in Convention will be held September 5,6,7,1992 at Arab, Alabama.
After a break for refreshments, the group watched an entertaining video on flying in Hawaii.

Bob closed the meeting at 9:53PM.
