EAA Chapter 180 February meeting                                                                                     2/27/91

President Willie Pittman opened the meeting at 7:50PM with the Pledge to the Flag.  41 members and guests were present.
Willie announced Buchan Field in Englewood is again threatened with closing and needs our support.
Julia Googins made an announcement about the SRQ meeting March 12th.  Louise Sacchi, a ferry pilot, will be the guest speaker.
Jim Kissick announced the next quarterly meeting of the Manasota Aviation Action Council will be held at McElmurray Hall, Tuesday, March 19th.
Willie presented the 1990 officers with an award of appreciation for their efforts this past year.
Our guest speaker, Billy Henderson, spoke on the upcoming Sun 'n Fun fly-in at Lakeland.  This year's theme is "Tribute to Flight".  He spoke of the many committees an organizations involved and the many volunteers which will be needed.  Of the visitors flying in to the event, 90% come from out of state.  The fly-in has more than a 19 million dollar impact on the Lakeland economy, using conservative estimates.  The museum is open and growing with new exhibits.  The facilities are used year 'round  by many local and state organizations.
Billy believes Sun 'n Fun helps build goodwill between the EAA and the FAA. Samuel Skinner will be back as speaker this year. Good relations are enjoyed with local government also.  A mile of new lighting has been donated by the City of Lakeland, as well as other valuable help from city and county employees.  A new entrance road has been built to improve traffic flow.
This year's event is to be dedicated to our Armed Forces.  A mass balloon lift off will be held on Sunday and again on the following Saturday.  A warbird show will be put on every day, and movies will be shown every evening.
A schedule of events and forums will be available at our March meeting.
After a break for refreshments, brought this month by Daryl Reith, Ray Olcott reminded us volunteers are needed for Sun 'n Fun.  Jo Olcott added she will also need help at registrations.
Our new large screen TV was due to a joint Chapter 180 - SRQ effort, our half the result of volunteer efforts at last years Sun 'n Fun.  Everyone enjoyed watching Craig Morehead's video on flights in his Mustang II, from taxi tests to 50 hrs of flight.

Willie closed the meeting at 9:07PM.

Respectfully submitted, Rolf Bostrom, Secretary
